- An approved riding helmet is required every time a rider mounts
a horse. A bike helmet is not acceptable; in the event of a
fall, a bike helmet may not be sufficient to protect the
rider's head. Riding helmets must pass a series of strict
requirements to be approved, and are designed to withstand the
impact of a fall. Helmets in a wide range of sizes are available
for loan at the stables, but it is recommended that you purchase
a helmet of your own for the best fit. See Resources
& Links for places to find helmets.
- Boots with a 1" heel are
required for riding. Sturdy boots are required for riding and working around horses
(no sneakers or sandals). Inexpensive rubber riding boots are
recommended for children, as they tend to outgrow them quickly!
- Loose jewelry is not recommended while riding or working with
the horses.
- Long pants are required when riding or working with the horses.
Jeans or breeches (stretchy riding pants with leather knee patches)
are suggested. Chaps are also a popular choice.
- Riding gloves are recommended.
